a pint of wit & a cup of lit: Once upon a short story...

Hello there and good morning, young folks! Here we are again in the virtual world where literature is the food to our passionate soul. So why don't you take a pint of that wit of yours and pour a nice cup of lit and get ready for our next literature lesson for breakfast! :D

But before we start our lesson, do you remember I told you to read one of the short stories, QWERTYUIOP? Well, hopefully you have read the story because today we are going to learn the literary elements in the story! Unlike poems, students, for short stories we have:

Synopsis: The summary of the story.
Characters: Imaginary people created by the writer.
Setting: The time and location in which a story takes place.
Plot: The arrangement of ideas and/or incidents that make up a story.
Theme: The main idea or point of the story.
Point of View: The angle from which the story is told.
Moral Values: The good and positive attributes of the story.

However, today we will only be looking at the synopsis, characters, setting, and plot.
Thus fret not, my young readers, for we shall learn the other elements in our next class ;)

So since you have read the story, what is the story about? Let's summarize, shall we?

"The story revolves around a young graduate named Lucy Beck who has just finished her O-levels at Belmont Secretarial College. Being a slow learner herself, she has no confidence that she will find a job. Fortunately, she is offered a job by Mr. Ross, the Manager of Ross and Bannister's. During her first day, she encounters many peculiar incidents. Later, she finds out that there is a spirit lingering named Ms. Bloome around the office who is adamant in holding on to her position as the company's secretary. Lucy's troubles become more complicated as Ms. Bloome causes her difficulties in the one task that she has been trained in and that is typing letters. Towards the end of the story, Lucy tries to get rid of the spirit that has been haunting that place for many years by putting the spirit at peace. At first, Lucy is about to give up her position as she can't possibly fight a ghost, however she soon realizes that all problems could be resolved with a little compassion."

Wow, what an interesting yet scary story this is! Anything involving ghost sure scares me! Hope you students are not scared, ...or are you? he he he.
